Whale season & boat encounters

Southern right whales typically arrive in Walker Bay from June
Peak whale watching is usually July to September, often extending into October and early November
Land viewing from the Hermanus cliff path is free and excellent in peak season
Boat-based close encounters run in season with licensed operators — subject to sea conditions and operator schedules
Outside peak months, the Whale Coast remains scenic; whale sightings are less reliable
